Nowadays, the lack of a Dark Mode for an app or website can be a deal breaker for some people. With more and more people getting used to the age of technology, people are significantly spending a lot more time looking at their screens. Desktop and smartphone users alike are often overwhelmed by the bright white screen.

Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Youtube, and most of these other massive tech companies already have a Night Mode for their platform. So, what about Google Workspace? At the moment, Google Workspace doesn’t have Night Mode yet.

In this blog, we’ll tackle the why and the workarounds so you can still enjoy Google Workspace in Dark Mode.

Why is Dark Mode still missing in Google Workspace?

It’s not about Google not putting enough development work on Google Workspace. On the contrary, Google is putting a lot of effort into it as they really value Google Cloud. Google is often accused of not updating the apps or Google Workspace enough. However, I think it’s more about Google’s dysfunction as a large growing business with lots of different priorities.

Here’s the thing about Google: each product manager will report to the chief of product. But the individual products will actually have their own product manager. Meaning, that there will be a Google Drive product manager, a Google Calendar product manager, and so on. The timelines for implementing something like Night Mode across those apps may likely be different. This isn’t much of a surprise given that each product will have its own priorities to work on.

Dark Mode for Google Workspace is very likely to come in the future, but for now, all we can do are enjoy the workarounds. Yes, there are ways to have Night Mode in Google even without them implementing it yet.
