Tips to Maximize your Google Workspace for Business

1. Rapid Release

To access new features in Google Workspace, you don't need to install any software. Most new features are automatically added to users' accounts. By picking a release track, you can decide whether new features go live right away or take some time to appear as a Google Workspace admin.

You can select either the Rapid Release or the Scheduled Release track for your account.

What is Rapid Release?

Rapid Release—When new features are added to Google Workspace, your users are among the first to use them. This indicates that new features are frequently available to your users as soon as they are made available to the general public.

How to change the release track to Rapid Release?

  1. Go to your admin.google.com
  2. Navigate to Menu > Account > Account settings > Preferences in the Admin console.
  3. Click New features in the Release preferences section.
  4. Choose Rapid Release.
  5. Press Save.

2. Try out the new Google Workspace features

Now that you have Rapid Release, you’ll get a chance to try out the new Google Workspace features before everyone else gets to try them.

So what are you waiting for? Go test the new features yourself!

Where can I find the new Google Workspace features?

How can you stay updated on the newest features of Google Workspace? Thankfully, Google keeps a well-updated blog of any changes and features that they make on Google Workspace.

You can see the updated blog related to Google Workspace Updates on workspaceupdates.googleblog.com.

This is where Google catalogues each new release that is happening from the small to the large.

Now from time to time, we'll actually create videos on this channel and let you know when there are exciting new features that are being released. And ones that you want to keep tabs on as a business owner. But if you want to see them coming through for yourself, then the best thing to do is make sure you subscribe to the updates blog and make sure you're reading that regularly.

3. Fully implement Google Workspace

For many businesses Workspace was set up by a previous employee, or maybe it was set up by a web developer, or maybe you put it in place when you had an issue with a server. And it was never fully implemented with all of the tools.

For many businesses who work with us, we find that they come along and say,

“You know what, I've got this Google Workspace thing, but I really don't feel like I'm using it to its full potential”

And so I recommend that you actually fully implement Google Workspace and that means both training your team and completely moving on from other systems that you're using.

Do you find that some of your team members are still using Microsoft Office format documents inside the business? Or maybe they're still using Keynote for presentations when you have great document formats with Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google slides?

If these kinds of warning signs are still there in your business, well, then it might be a case of not having fully implemented and not effectively managing change inside the business.

4. Training your team

We see businesses take a different approach to team training.

We would love it if we can help to teach your team how to get more out of the Google ecosystem.

And you can find some videos in our playlists specifically related to Google Workspace. But making sure your team are actually trained is a very easy way to get more productivity out of your team. And make sure that you're realizing the full investment of Google Workspace.

Now if you're a new Google Workspace admin to workspace, and you want to learn more about how to actually operate the admin controls, well, you might be interested in our free Google Workspace administrator course, all for Google Workspace subscribers. And that's actually available via our transfer-in offer here. You just need to transfer your license billing to itGenius – doesn't cost you any extra, but you get access to Genius Academy.

Inside Genius Academy, you get a Google Classroom full of videos for both your team to learn how to use Google Workspace, but also for administrators to learn how to use the back end of the platform, and how to actually get more value out of Google workspace right across the board.
