Are you a business owner who thinks that reporting is only for bigger businesses? Well, you might be caught in a little bit of a trap there. And in this video, I want to talk about the gap between reporting and visualizing on your data. And one of the hallmarks of growing a successful business is actually knowing where your numbers are at, particularly your sales and your marketing numbers, so that you can know Well, what’s in the pipeline in dollars. And so you can hire and scale your business and grow your team with real numbers rather than just relying on a gut feeling, right. So when we’re working on growing a business, and if you’re in the growth or early stage startup stage of your business, you may not have an idea of exactly what’s happening with the sales and marketing numbers in your business. And what most business owners do is in the early stages of businesses, they’ll just put all of that on a spreadsheet, or ask someone to update a spreadsheet and bring that along to the weekly sales meeting, right. And that’s one way of kind of like starting the process of starting to get some information. But what can happen is for most businesses, they rely on sexy indicators. And what I mean by sexy indicators are, they’re indicators that are useful for bragging, but they don’t really give you insights on what’s happening in the business. And so yeah, maybe Woolworths gave us a call. And they’re interested in potentially doing business with us. And that’s exciting to talk about, but we don’t quite have the deal across the line yet. Someone’s reporting that they’ve got heaps of leads coming through, but they’re not really translating into sales right now. But the number of leads is really exciting, right? Or maybe everyone’s really busy. And everyone’s always busy, busy, busy. But his real work actually getting done, are you actually getting the real results? What is much more effective for businesses to know that, hey, you know, that conference that we spent 500 bucks on for someone to go to a couple of months ago? Well, we brought in a $5,000 deal this month from a lead that we picked up from that conference. And that allows you to map the efforts of your marketing activities to real business results. So if right now you’re using something like zero.com, or another accounting system, as your only source for the finances, in your business, and how things are running on the sales side of things, well, you’re missing out on a lot of insight that can drive more growth and more success for you. Really, that only allows you to work on the gut instinct of where your marketing activities are. And a CRM system is a technology platform that’s going to help you get more sales and marketing data, what that’s going to do is it’s going to open your eyes to where the flows of leads are actually coming from in the business. And you can work on starting to build those up and build more success in your marketing efforts. Now, sexy data doesn’t have to be a part of the picture here, instead of lying in bed stressed about how the business is actually going and whether or not it’s growing, your marketing no longer has to be a scary black box. And so for business owners who are more on the technical side of things, or more on the creative side of things, you know, maybe working with the technology of scaling a sales team, or scaling a marketing team is not something that’s natural for you. Now, you can do simple sums, when you’ve got the data from your marketing and your sales efforts like taking, how many hours did I spend on a particular marketing channel, divide that by the dollars that have come in from close sales from that channel. And from there, you’re already in the mindset of a business owner, who can successfully lead marketing and scale your business by knowing what results you’re getting from the different areas on your marketing efforts. And you’ll be able to see those results in the business. And you know, okay, when I try a new marketing campaign, I can actually see exactly what the results are.
