I use a Yubikey for my 2-factor authentication. Also works with your Google Account, and it’s better than the current “Where’s my phone, find the app, press the button, enter the 6 digits in time” dance that you do using Google Authenticator. Here’s the device I use. https://www.yubico.com/products/yubikey-hardware/yubikey-neo/
I see your point but I sometimes don’t have my keys with me – I always have my phone. Personal preference!
I do love the ubikey system though
