Google Meet recording feature disappeared? Where has it gone to?
Google has, during the coronavirus pandemic, created a promo. With this promo, they actually gave one of the best features to every edition of G Suite. That was the ability to record a Google meet meeting.
When you were in a meeting, you could click one button and it would automatically start recording your meeting. After the meeting, it will actually put that recording automatically into your Google Drive. Moreover, it will share it with the parties invited to the meeting.
The recording feature is only available for a limited time for some users
What happened was Google availed of that promo and effectively allowed everyone to access the recording feature. However, this was only up until the end of September. For those that had access to the Google Meet recording feature, you actually had to upgrade your plan. Upgrading to G Suite Enterprise will retain access to that feature.
Now that’s a really great feature to be able to access, and in my personal opinion, I thought that should have been included in all business plans. Why? Being able to record your meetings is one of the best features of competitive products like Zoom. It’s super simple to just click one button and automatically be recording. And I’m really glad to say that Google actually listened to the feedback of business owners. People want this feature on the business plan and in the new Google workspace plans that have been announced. Now, it’s part of the business standard plan.
How can you access the recording button?
The only challenge is that we have this gap where Google Workspace is not actually officially launched until January 15. So those that are currently on the old G Suite plans and have not yet been upgraded to the newer Google Workspace plans, you’re still not going to have access to the Google Meet recording feature. And if you’ve been using it for the last six months, then you’re probably missing it. But there is a way to get access to it and that is to upgrade now, switch your account over to one of the new Google workspace plans. And if you’re interested in that, you can contact our team via the link below and we’ll actually help you upgrade to one of those plans.
Which Google Workspace plans can access the recording feature?
Now, of course, if you’re considering upgrading from a business plan to an enterprise plan, the Google Meet recording feature is available on all of the Enterprise plans. But Google is also making this feature available on the Business Standard plan, which is what was formerly known as G Suite for Business and Google Apps Unlimited in earlier additions of it.
So the feature is still there. It’s kind of disappeared for now if you’re not paying for a Business Standard plan, or if you’re still on the old G Suite plans, you’ve not yet moved over by a process of opting-in to the new Google Workspace plans, then you probably won’t have the Meet recording feature. But if you want it back, you can chat to our team and we’ll be able to hook you up potentially with a discount, but at a minimum, getting you onto one of the new Workspace plans which have access to the recording feature.
