What is Google Admin Console?

You can manage your Google Workspace services from one location—the Google Admin console. To manage user accounts, set up administrator preferences for your Google Workspace services, keep track of Google Workspace usage across your domain, create groups, and more, utilize the Google Admin console.

What can you do in Google Admin Console?

You may control all of your Google Workspace services via the Google Admin console as an administrator. Use it to configure mobile devices, manage billing, add or remove people, and more. Visit admin.google.com to access the Admin console.

As the administrator, you might be asking yourself…

How can I make the most out of my Google Admin Console Reports?

You’ve come to the right place, itGenius can tell you exactly how.

Drive Logs

You can conduct searches related to Drive log events using the audit and investigation page as an administrator. You can view a history of actions to see Drive user activity for your company there. The content your users create in Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and other Google Workspace apps as well as the stuff they upload to Drive, like PDF and Word files, are both included in the Drive log events.

Two-Factor Authentication

Setting up 2-Step Verification involves both you and your users in significant ways. Individuals in your business have the option of choosing their 2-Step Verification method, or you can impose one on particular users or groups. For instance, you could mandate the usage of security keys for a small sales staff.

How can I enable 2FA in the Google Admin console?

  1. Open the admin console for your Google Workspace.
  2. Go to the dashboard and choose Security.
  3. Select 2-step Verification.
  4. Verify that the box next to Allow users to enable 2-Step Verification is checked.
  5. You can update more sophisticated features like:
    • Enforce 2-Step Verification by requiring users to utilize it.
    • Allow time for new users to enrol before requiring them to utilise 2-Step Verification.
    • Allow users to select trustworthy devices for frequency.
    • Set acceptable techniques for verification (phone, text, email, etc).
  6. Press Save.

Password Security

A solid password is the first line of defence for securing online accounts. Organizations, therefore, have different requirements for the passwords of their users. Google Workspace administrators already have the ability to set minimum and maximum password length requirements for their users. With this, Google enables the enforcement of more stringent password requirements for greater security and to satisfy their compliance requirements.

Administrators can do the following on their Google Admin Console:

  • Require users to set a strong password
  • Control when password length and strength requirements go into effect
  • Require that users update their passwords after a predetermined period of time
  • Stop users from using previous passwords again

Email Log

To locate and examine emails sent and received by users on your domain during the previous 30 days, utilize Email Log Search (ELS). Examine each message individually or perform a search by email address or message ID. ELS search results can be downloaded to a CSV or Google Sheet.

Device Logs

You can do searches pertaining to Device log events using the security investigation tool as the administrator of your company. You may see a history of steps taken to monitor computer, mobile, and smart home activity used to access data belonging to your company. For instance, you may observe if a device's password violates your password policy or when a user joined their account to it. To be informed when an activity takes place, you may also set an alert.

Apps Tracking and Apps Usage Log

To learn more about how your users utilize Google Workspace apps, as an administrator, you can use Apps to use reports. The Apps Usage Report under User Reports offers information about the activity of your users, including:

  • emails sent over a certain time frame
  • how many files do people produce and distribute
  • users who are about to reach their Drive storage restrictions
  • the number of searches made using various types of devices

Security Audit Report

You can do searches linked to Admin log events using the audit and investigation page. There, you can see a history of all operations made in your Google Admin console, such as when a manager activated a Google Workspace service or added a user.

So heaps options here that you can use in the reports. And if you'd like some help with this, please be sure to reach out to our team.
